Minimum shift length

A minimum shift length is the smallest number of hours a staffing agency will bill, and usually pay, for one worker's shift. It exists because workers commit their whole day, travel to the site and turn down other work to show up. Minimums differ by agency, role and market, and some states separately require reporting-time pay when an employee is sent home early. Ask about the minimum up front and plan short tasks, like a one-hour unload, alongside other work so you are not paying for idle time.
