Definition
TIPS (Training for Intervention ProcedureS) is a widely used responsible alcohol service program. It teaches bartenders, servers and concessions staff to check IDs, spot signs of intoxication, and refuse or slow service without escalating the situation. Some states and localities require an approved alcohol server training for anyone who serves or sells alcohol; others leave it to the employer or venue. Other approved programs exist, and requirements vary by state. Many venues require it for every bartender and beverage server.
